Sake exports

According to figures issued by the Japanese Ministry of Finance, the sake export figures have reached record levels of 11.334 kilolitres, compared to 7.051 kilolitres in 2001.  Around a third of sake is exported to the United States, followed by Taiwan, Hong Kong and China.  The sake consumption in Europe is a little behind the United States figures.  This could be explained by the fact that Europeans have always been completely hooked on wine, whilst the Americans don't have a traditional drink.
